You can use Medicare Advantage to ensure you are well covered for your healthcare needs for the coming year. Signing up through a trusted insurer like Humana gives you access to competitive rates, great customer service and some member benefits that you may not get from other carriers. This is why we want to highlight the Humana Medicare Advantage 2020 options and what they can do for you.
What’s a Medicare Advantage Plan?
For those seniors who are not familiar with Medicare Advantage, it is a high coverage medical insurance plan that acts as a replacement for Original Medicare while adding on some extra coverage. So, it will take care of all of the Medicare Part A and Part B costs and services for you that would normally be covered by Original Medicare. The only exception there is the hospice care costs, which are still going be covered by Medicare Part A through the government organization Medicare.
On top of that coverage, Advantage plans also take care of the cost of emergency medical services and urgently needed healthcare for you. That includes all sorts of expenses and services that are situational, meaning that you can only be covered for them when they are considered necessary by your healthcare provider.
Advantage plans are available to anyone over the age of 65 who meets the eligibility requirements for Medicare. That typically means that you are a US citizen or a permanent resident of five years or more. If you have Medicare already, then you probably qualify for Medicare Advantage too, but if you are not sure or would like clarification of your eligibility, then you can always contact us or talk to a Medicare representative.
Once you meet the eligibility requirements for Medicare Advantage, then you will need to apply for the plan you want anywhere between October 15th and December 7th. This Open Enrollment window gives you the best rates and ensures that you get the plan you apply for. You can’t be turned down for the plan you want simply because of a preexisting medical condition, when you apply during this time.
How Medicare Advantage Works with Existing Coverage
If you have a medical insurance plan right now and would like to replace it or supplement it with Medicare Advantage, then you need to know if there will be any conflict in the coverage. After all, you can’t be signed up for two plans with some of the same coverage at once. That would mean you are paying for the same coverage twice, which is not allowed and is certainly not practical or cost effective for you.
Medicare Advantage will not work with a Medicare Supplement plan- also known as Medigap. It will also not be compatible with most union healthcare plans or healthcare plans that come from employers. It will work just fine with Original Medicare, however, as well as Medicare Part D, as long as Part D coverage is not included in the Advantage plan. Many of the Humana Medicare Advantage 2020 plans will include Medicare Part D coverage or cover for routine checkups, and if you already have this kind of cover through another health insurance plan, then you will need to decide between one insurance plan or the other. You cannot keep them both.
Humana Offers You Powerful Benefits
Each insurance carrier that you could choose between will give you some exclusive member benefits. Humana has a host of benefits to offer that differ from other insurances, so when you are comparing Medicare Advantage plans, be sure to compare these perks and how they may help you out. Right now, Humana offers coverage for Weight Watchers, weight loss surgery, access to medical professionals 24 hours a day, access to urgent care centers, pregnancy care and much more. You can talk to a Humana representative to see what kind of member benefits they offer with their different membership and insurance programs and what kinds of benefits are available in your area. In some cases, the benefits do differ based on where you live and what is available in that location.
If you choose a Humana, plan, then you get access to their competitive rates, which you can check here on our site and see how they compare to other insurers in your area. You also get to benefit from their customer service and have the chance to renew your plan once your current plan’s term is over. You may be able to pay a lower rate than what new subscribers will pay for the same plan, as you are often rewarded for being a loyal member.
Humana’s Network Coverage
Humana has a large network of clinics, hospitals and other medical facilities that will honor its coverage plans. These places are on its coverage network, and if you have one of Humana’s plans but choose to go outside of their network area for your healthcare services, then you won’t be getting full coverage from your plan. You may not get any coverage at all, depending on the kind of plan that you choose.
If you look at Humana’s Medicare Advantage plans, then you will see that some of them are labeled with terms like “HMO” and “PPO”. These tell you the kind of network option you are getting.
The HMO option is the one that most seniors choose, since it is more affordable, in most cases. HMOs will cover you just on the network. Once you go outside the network for your healthcare, you are not going to be covered at all by the HMO plan.
PPOs cover you both on and off the network. They offer full coverage for the network and partial coverage outside of it, and that extensive coverage will cost you more.
